Re: report email
Ok, theory confirmed. :-) HDS is now working normally again on the machine, no more hangs and reports are again sent by email. RAM usage of the task is normal again as well. For those interested: The flood of event log entries appear to be a problem with the mainboard (Asus P10S WS in my case): As s...

Re: report email
I may have found something: Apparently since I swapped in the NVME drive, I'm getting a massive amount of errors in the system log: Protokollname: System Quelle: Microsoft-Windows-WHEA-Logger Datum: 17.03.2023 13:04:44 Ereignis-ID: 17 Aufgabenkategorie:Keine Ebene: Warnung Schlüsselwörter: Benutzer:...

Re: report email
Hello, after some days of observation, it seems to me your original hunch was correct: I've now disabled all auto-starts (no more "dual" processes so far) and I've disabled email sending completly (no more popups about failed messages.) However, the "hangs" are still there: HDS i...

Re: report email
There are a number of aspects here that make this issue very confusing. I'll try to separate them: 1.) report email not sent: Yesterday, I restarted HDS and tried "send test mail". The email was sent, HDS was fully usable (browsing disks, going through menus, config dialog.) This morning I...

Re: report email
Actually, the situation got worse: HDS is currently not usable on this system. Apart from the email issue, HDS hangs ("not responding") and more erratic behaviour ("zombie windows" in the taskbar etc.) As I mentioned, the problems started right after I exchanged the system drive....

report email
Hello, HD Sentinel has started to fail sending its daily report-email on one of my systems. There is an error popup in the lower right corner (which keeps popping up again and again apparently until the mail can be sent, which is never): Status e-mail sending error. Out of memory while expanding mem...

email sending (Server 2012)
Hello once more, I'm unable to have HD-Sentinel send emails from a specific system. When using the "Mail Test" button I get a popup with the following error message: "Doesn't support AUTH or the specified SASL handlers!!" (sic) The OS HDS is running on is "Windows Server 201...

Service mode - reporting
Hello, I'd like to use HDS in "service mode" on a server. I have switched the already installed HDS to this mode and started the tray application. My problem now is how to interact with the service: - The "Tray Application" only gives temperatures, nothing else. If I switch it to...

Re: when to decommission HDD?
Hello, That reference about the "weak sector" workings was very interesting. I didn't know that a "weak sector" was not the same as a "bad sector" (which would lead to an inevitable "reallocation event".) This appears to be my case exactly: I had a report of a...

when to decommission HDD?
Hello, back in the "old days" when you first noticed a single defective sector on a HDD, you immediately did your best to replace the drive as soon as possible. Reason being that when there was a single defect on the surface, there could well be loose particles inside the case bouncing aro...

Re: HDS crashes without a trace
I seem to have found a solution for my case: First I switched HDS to display seperate tray icons for the HDDs (instead of "just show highest temp" in a single icon). In this case, that meant four seperate tray icons. As I watched these for some time I noted that every once in a while one o...

Re: HDS crashes without a trace
I am already using the Professional Edition (at least Help/About says so), but the "Backup" option is still not there. ;-) Regarding the "exiting", today I noted something else: At least today (not yet sure if this really is the case every time), HDS vanished, but as it turns out...

Re: HDS crashes without a trace
One small hitch: I don't have a "backup configuration" option in "Configuration/Advanced Options".
Has this been moved or renamed?

Re: HDS crashes without a trace
Hello, After HDS exited again on me only minutes after system start (already using the new v5.70), I took your advice and started using a portable version. This portable version hasn't exited once so far (in a few days.) So indeed it seems to be some settings issue. If I do the "backup config a...

Re: HDS crashes without a trace
Hello, I'm seeing the same issue here (using v5.61). What's interesting is that this only happens on one of my machines: It's a desktop, not running 24/7, but running long hours. More and more frequently (it seems), I notice that the HD-Sentinel icon just isn't there any more in the tray. I never qu...

Alert for SSD at 95% health
Hello, I have a SSD (Samsung 850 Pro 512GB) that has been working for about three years and has now fallen to 95% health with about 22 TBW. The drive is rated for 300 TBW, so a 5% drop over 20 TBW seems quite reasonable. The problem is that HD-Sentinel treats the 95% health as an "Alert", ...

send email with HDS v5.60
Hello, I have HD-Sentinel configured to send me email notifications using a local mailserver. With HDS v5.50 this was working fine. After the Update to HDS v5.60 this handling broke, HDS now reports "Socket Error" upon sending (with the "test mail" function as well). If I disable...

wish: filter drives
Hello, I have a feature wish that would be a rather extensive modification: I would like to filter the list of drives either by manufacturer/model or by data points, e.g. the elapsed "power on time", health or SMART attribute values. My use case at hand is that I have a number of drives an...
