Hard Disk Monitoring

Is there any possibilit of a linux client to monitor Hard Drives on Linux machines. I am currently using the Enterprise product. It works great on straight windows machines with no RAID. We are investigating migrating to a SAN Solution. We have been particularly impressed with SAN O/S fro open E. Using software RAIDs the SMART DATA is still available inside the O/S. It would be great if we could wse an agent to send the SMART data to Hard Drive Sentinel. What are your thoughts.

Also the Windows version should work on many RAIDs also (you wrote only on no RAID).

Is it possible to use all the RAID levels when running Linux?

It depends on the RAID controller as some of them do not allow accessing drives and getting hard disk status.

What is a RAID controlleR?

A special expansion card where you can connect to hard disks (or SSDs) and configure them to "group" them to use them with high fault tolerance (eg. RAID 1 = mirroring) and/or higher performance (eg. RAID 0 = striping). There are lots of different manufacturers offer such solutions, some of them can handle even hundreds of hard disks connected.
