Hard Disk Monitoring

Im just starting to use hard disk sentinel and I dont know if i understood it right, but after reading "How Hard Disk S.M.A.R.T. Works?" . The text says that if you have values near 100 in the s.m.a.r.t screen my disk life is near its end (i have a lot 100 values) , like i said im new at this so i dont really know because the software still indicates 100% health and im in strict evaluation mode so here is a acreen of my values and i would really apreciate if guys clear my doubts

are this values ok or should i replace the disk cause a lot of them are near 100 that indidicates the disk is old, but it´s that old just 3 years

This is completely wrong and I'm sure it is NOT present on www.hdsentinel.com/smart


As long as the text description shows no errors, the health is 100%, you do not need to worry: things are fine.
Checking the values on S.M.A.R.T. page may helpful only if you are sure about the meaning of the different attributes you plan to check, for example if you prefer to examine the actual error counters - which are now all zero, otherwise the "health" could not be as high as 100%.

ok thanks but the thing is that a saw a screen in this forum of an example of a hrd drive going bad and health was at 100%

Maybe I missed something, but I can't really remember about a such hard disk (with 100% health and failing). Can you please tell me where did you see it on the forum?
Such "sudden" failure may occur upon some environmental issue, which can't be really predicted, for example physical damage (shock), over-voltage and so.

I can confirm that (you wrote that you selected the strict evaluation method) the software will report any kind of problems (even minor ones) and the health% should immediately change upon such issues.

Anyway, if you prefer, you can any time use Report -> Send test report to developer option as then I can check the current complete status and may advise. This is especially useful if you send it when the drive seems perfect (now) and later, any time, if you see changes in the reported health% or text description. This way it is possible to compare the change as well.

Also if I can help or clarify about any specific value or if you have any questions, please just let me know.

nother question why is it that an much older disk the one that has windows installed shows better or higher values in the smart screen than my 1 TB external hard drive

On the http://www.hdsentinel.com/smart/index.php page, the example shows a hard disk where data recovery was possible - but it was a very expensive procedure performed by special data recovery company. It could be avoided if the user would have Hard Disk Sentinel and perform backup immediately when he see even small decrease of the health (indicating new problems).

I'd recommend to upgrade to version 4.00. Version 3.1 is really old and the new version has much more functions, features and even improvements for newer hard disks and other devices (eg. hard disk controllers, SSDs and so).
You may use Report menu Send test report to developer option any time, as then I can check and advise about the current situation, for example what step(s) would be nice to perform (for example tests available in Hard Disk Sentinel to reveal and fix any possible problems).

It may sounds surprising, but an older hard disk may not neccessarily have "worse" condition than a newer one.
If the older drive was originally perfect and you had proper operationg environment (good power supply, good cables, cooling to maintain good operating temperature, no vibration / no shock) then you may expect that it is in very good (even excellent) condition.
In contrast, newer drives may be more sensitive to the mentioned operating conditions.
But this also depend on models, manufacturers (both the old and new drives).
