WD SN850X not recognized

Post by jsz »

I have WD Black SN850X NVME SSD in one of my PC, and it is not recognized by HDSentinel.

The PC is a Dell Precision T5810 with a Xeon E5-1607 v3, OS is Windows 8.1 with all of its updates, and there are no manufacturer provided drivers for the SSD in question since it's supported by the OS.

(You posted to incorrect topic, so I moved to proper topic).

I'm afraid what you see is completely normal and expected.

The problem is that the default standard NVMe controller driver of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 is limited: as you see, it does not allow accessing disk status information. This is a bug/limitation of the Windows 7 / 8.1 standard NVMe controller driver, NOT a limitation of Hard Disk Sentinel at all.

And exactly because of this, the status and the solution to replace the driver to a working one is described at:

https://www.hdsentinel.com/kb/category/11/solid-state-drives-ssds/why-i-do-not-see-the-status-of-nvme-ssd-under-windows-7.html

Please check that page for the details and step-by-step instructions about how to download and install a proper NVMe driver (if there is no manufacturer-specific driver available for your SSD and this OS).
