Hi, now it is possible to use SSL during mail config.
Is it possible to add option to use STARTLS which is common on mail servers to especially when authentication is used?

Thanks

Re: Mail configuration STARTTLS
Thanks for your message.
I can confirm that this is already available for many-many years.
Hard Disk Sentinel automatically uses the proper TLS authentication when required: when the port number suggests that (eg. 465 or 587).
This is how it is possible to configure with (for example) gmail and many other email accounts/providers.
If you search this forum, you may find many topics about how to correctly set e-mail configuration, for example:
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=10104&p=13494&hilit=gmail#p13494

Re: Mail configuration STARTTLS
Hi, thanks for quick answer.
It seams to me, that only plaintext or SSL version is supported.
This is log from SMTP server. HDSentinel is connecting plaintext and than server requires to switch to STARTTLS to not send user/pass in plaintext, HDSentinel fails.
"SENT: 250-IP_ADDRESS[nl]250-SIZE 20480000[nl]250-STARTTLS[nl]250-AUTH LOGIN[nl]250 HELP"
"RECEIVED: AUTH LOGIN"
"SENT: 530 Must issue STARTTLS first."
There are two versions of SSL
1)SSL/TLS from beginning when port open (like HTTPS)
2)STARTTLS, beginning is plaintext and than connection could be upgraded to encrypted by issuing STARTTLS.
Are really both supported?
Thanks

Re: Mail configuration STARTTLS
Yes and selected automatically if port 587 configured. This way the proper method (with STARTTLS) is selected and used automatically.
May I ask the port you use?
There may be an option to force this regardless of the port number...

Re: Mail configuration STARTTLS
Youre right. Port 587 is working with STARTTLS.
Bad thing is, that some email providers supports only 25 as plaintext and again 25 with STARTTLS when auth is necessary (email send outside of domain).
Yes, it would be great to have option to choose either TLS or STARTTLS preference.

Re: Mail configuration STARTTLS
I added the option to use TLS (STARTTLS) in all cases.
Originally it was automatically used when port 587 used, but yes, some providers may require it when different port is configured. So now if you enable at Configuration -> E-mail configuration page, it will be used regardless of port.
If you have some time, please check this update with this option:
http://www.hdsentinel.com/beta4/hdsenti ... -mmbhd.zip
To use this version, please just completely close the current Hard Disk Sentinel Pro by File -> Exit and (without uninstallation) install this version to the same folder, where the previous installed. This way the new version will automatically use all statistics, settings, registration/license details (if available) just provide new functions.
If you prefer, you may backup the complete original folder - just to be safe.
Please check - and let me know your experiences with it.

Re: Mail configuration STARTTLS
Perfect, now I can send emails. Tested on 5 computers, no error so far.
Thanks for quick implementation, this really help a lot.

Re: Mail configuration STARTTLS
Could you make auto fill email configuration?: for example
When I choolse configuration is gmail will automatic fill smtp.gmail.com, number port ...
Thanks!

Re: Mail configuration STARTTLS
Thanks for the tip!
Currently Hard Disk Sentinel designed to auto fill email configuration: to detect possible configured e-mail accounts in Outlook / Outlook Express and automatically fill the entries, including the e-mail address, account, etc.
But yes, it may be good idea to offer generic configuration for gmail / yahoo and/or some common providers, to specify the smtp server and port when selected - so then you'd only need to specify few options.
Thanks for the suggestion!
