How to reset the Failure predictive state

Post by jcgcs »

Hello,

I am very happy with HDsentinel, but after a failure, I changed Harddisk (hot swap) but I am still getting this error.
HD Sentinel doesnt know that there is a new disk in place.

Hope to hear a solution.

This sounds interesting.

Of course Hard Disk Sentinel detects the changed configuration and the new hard disk.
So there should be no error when the failing hard disk removed, replaced. There is no need to reset the failure predicitve state manually.

In some rare situations if the hot-swap / hot-plug event is not issued by the device driver (which may be related to the external enclosure/adapter OR the disk controller driver, where the hard disk connected), then Hard Disk Sentinel is not informed about the device change.
Then you may either
- click on the manual update button: in the main window, click the leftmost button (forming two arrows) to update disk information
- completely close Hard Disk Sentinel by File -> Exit and restart

Then the changed configuration should be detected and reported.

If this does not happen, please use Report menu -> Send test report to developer option - as then it is possible to check the detected status information.

Also in one other case Hard Disk Sentinel may still display the status of the old (failed) hard disk drive when disconnected: if Hard Disk Sentinel configured to show the status of the drive - even if it's offline (not connected).
This can be configured with File menu -> Open status of offline disks option.

Thanks, now I see.

Yes, this is completely different situation. The HP RAID array controllers work differently than other controllers: they provide the error-counters and status information collected by the controller itself - which may be different from the actual status of the drive.
This is why Hard Disk Sentinel (together with the error status and information) shows that

"Note: The status information and possible error(s) provided by the hard disk (RAID) controller. This may be different from the status of the physical drive."

In this case yes, it seems that the HP controller did not really clear the error counter, did not reset the port where the original, previous drive used.
Personally I never encountered such - but it seems the controller somehow did not really notice that the drive removed and yes, it still shows the problems.

To be honest, I do not know how to reset the HP controller, to force it to (properly) recognise the new drive and to do not show the problem.
Personally I'd contact HP support - as they may have suggestions for that.
