I swore I posted this a few days ago and now it's not here, but I'll try again.
I have Hard Disk Sentinel on 5 computers. On ONE Windows 8 computer HDS won't auto start, or at least I don't get the tray icons with temp like I do on the other 4. HDS is in the startup folder. I even set it to show the main window on startup. I have to manually start HDS for the icons to show up. My other computers are 1 other Windows 8, 2 Windows 7, and even Windows Server 2012 Essentials, and on all the other 4 HDS starts and the green temp icons are in the tray.
Any ideas on what I might be missing on this one?

In theory, there should be no problems with startup - if it's enabled at Configuration -> Preferences (which is enabled by default).
The "startup" folder does not work - as Windows does not start from there ...
This is why under Win Vista, 7 and 8 Hard Disk Sentinel uses the "Windows Scheduler" to start itself automatically after logon of the user who installed it.
So you may perform the following to verify the Windows Scheduler and check the status and why the software is not started:
1) click on "Start" (Windows symbol)
2) select Control Panel -> System and Maintenance -> Administrative Tools -> Schedule tasks
This should open a window with the configured scheduled tasks.
3) on the left side under the "Task scheduler library" you should see an entry called "HardDiskSentinel".
4) Please select it and check the LOG which may display if the software was started and/or if something may prevent the startup.
Do you have some system-management software installed which may control which application(s) start automatically with the system?

OK, on this computer HDS WAS in the Startup folder. I may have put it there attempting to get it to start. I removed that entry in Startup.
In Task Scheduler there is a HDS entry but it's empty. I have tried all manner of settings in preferences and rebooting and can't get it entered in the Task Scheduler with anything in it. So what's the easiest way to get it in Task Scheduler? Uninstall and reinstall, or somehow manually add the entry?

Excuse me for this, but this is completely independent from Hard Disk Sentinel - so uninstall / reinstall will surely have no effect.
You may try to
- manually delete the entry from the Task Scheduler

Manually deleting the entry from Task Scheduler and disabling/enabling the autostart in HDS didn't work, but I manually created a Task Scheduler item and got it working. Seems OK now. Strange my other computers didn't have this issue, but more strange things have happened in Windows.

Yes, it's weird ...
If possible, please use Report -> Send test report to developer option on this system, then it is possible to reproduce the situation and verify what could be wrong, why Windows did not registered the task properly when should (which worked on your other systems).

I realize this thread is a bit old, so I hope it's okay to comment on it.
I think I can tell you why the OP was unable to see the contents of the HDS entry in the Task Scheduler. The OP's user account probably was a "standard user," not an administrator, and was not the user who installed HDS. When you look at another user's Task Scheduler entry and you are not an administrator, it looks empty. If you run Task Scheduler as an administrator, then you can see and change it....under Win Vista, 7 and 8 Hard Disk Sentinel uses the "Windows Scheduler" to start itself automatically after logon of the user who installed it.
