HDS (Remote) not showing details from WHS11

I have HDS on my WHS 2011 and when I log into the WHS 2011 Dashboard from another PC I get an HDS (Remote) Icon in the Status Bar but no details on the HDDs in this box... and I'm sure I used to. Is there something I need to reconfig?

Hi Nathan,

Excuse me, I'm not really sure what can be ...
Did you change any configuration / options if you previously have no problems?

Excuse me, I'm not really sure about HDS (Remote) icon you mentioned....

Can you please send some image/screen to info@hdsentinel.com ? That may help to check.

Hi - Here is a pic from my Windows 7 PC using the WHS11 Dashboard to connect remotly to the WHS box. You can see in this screen shot:
1) HDS Drive Notificions for the dirve in my Win7 Box (6 of them) - all fine
2) The HDS (Remote) Icon that appears when I log into the WHS11 Dashboard but it also used to display the drive status of those in the remote WHS box but this has stopped (at some point).

Why is that 2 of it have grey checks?

Excuse me, I'm not too experienced by using WHS11 Dashboard, so the image does not show me too much.

May I ask what does it mean "(remote)" next to Hard Disk Sentinel on the task bar button?

Do you see Hard Disk Sentinel running and displaying hard disk status?
Or do you use it in "Service Mode" (without user interface)?

Do you prefer to check status remotely, for example in a web browser by Configuration -> Integration -> Enable WebStatus ?

Sorry for the delay (had other issues). When I now remote into my WHS box I get the Tray Icons, and can open up from these the Status, and Configuration Windows but, Had Disk Temerature History, Open HD Sentinel Main Window or even running the Hard Disk Sentinel application does not work. Should I uninstall and reinstall?

I tried updating to the latest version but same result so I sent a test report. I'm wondering if the issue is related to me adding an external 5xHDD unit over e-sata with port multipler on this unit recently.

Thanks for the report !

I see no problems in the report, the status of the drives detected correctly - except the last device "virtual storage" which does not provide any kind of status information about the physical device(s) behind the virtualized drive.

It seems Hard Disk Sentinel runs correctly on WHS11 - so I have no ideas about the remote mode you mentioned.

No, I do not think re-install would cause any difference.

I'm so sorry, but I do not really understand the situation.
It seems Hard Disk Sentinel runs correctly, detects and displays the status information.

Please tell me how this remote system work. Is it like Windows Remote Desktop ?

What happens if you try to get status remotely by web browser using Configuration -> Integration -> Enable WebStatus ?

Apologies for my lack of clarity. I think I have two problems, and for simplicity I'll start with one for now.

My WHS11 Box is headless and to get access to it you just use MSTSC (Windows Remote Desktop) to create a session and then logoff when finished. I've attached a screen shot that shows that most things work as expected with the exception that I cannot get the Hard Disk Sentinel Main Window to run. When I try to run it all that happens is the HDS tray icons disappear one at a time then reappear.

I need to apologise - I did not really understand the problem and the specific issue.

This sounds interesting. There should be no problems with Windows Remote Desktop, lots of servers work this way and monitored by Hard Disk Sentinel without problems so I'm sure the Remote Desktop should be no problem.
Yes, if you try to run HDS (again), it detects the running instance and send a "refresh" command to it instead of having 2 copies running at the same time. This causes that the tray icons are refreshed but of course the software should be also displayed.

It is possible that the window is displayed - just on a position which is outside the screen dimensions. This may occur especially if the configuration changed (eg. screen resolution for the remote desktop and/or previously display adapter(s) used but removed).

You may try to
- completely close Hard Disk Sentinel (by File -> Exit)
- delete HDSentinel.ini file (or just rename / move to an other location to be safe)
- restart Hard Disk Sentinel
This way you can check if the window appears that way.
If you prefer (and especially if things then work) please send your previous HDSentinel.ini file to info@hdsentinel.com . This way I can check and improve the situation to prevent from happening again.

Very Happy - Issue # 2 is also fixed (Hard Disk Sentinel (Remote) is now working again as well)! The following Pic is from a PC that is using the Windows Home Server Dashboard (a form of Remote Desktop) to log into the WHS11 box. As you can see not only does the dashboard load but so does a HDS (remote) session showing the details of the drives on this PC. Fantastic!

I'm so glad to hear now both issues are fixed ;)

Thanks for posting the original INI file, this confirms the original feeling:

I saw that the problem was that the window of the software positioned outside the screen, in HDSentinel.INI ,
[HDS] section
WinX=1584

So removing the INI file and thus restoring the default settings cleared this and fixed the issue.
