According to Hard Disk Sentinel, this drive has a health status of 9% and an estimated remaining lifetime of 14 days, but is not yet eligible for RMA, so I was hoping to push it over the edge by using it extensively before the warranty runs out. I was wondering if taking it out of the case affects the warranty, but since WD's warranty check mentioned nothing of that sort, I was hopeful. But if you're right, I can abort the exercise and simply throw the drive away.
