Media is Write Protected

I'm trying to do a surface test on my external hdisk, but it says that the "media is write protected"...i'd be more than grateful to anyone who could help me...thanks in advance.

Usually this may occur if the device is really read-only, for example if you'd test am SD card where the read-only tab is used, but this should not happen for external hard disks.

Can you please use Report -> Send test report to developer option? Also maybe a screenshot would be good to check this situation.

I want to learn more about this. As you have said, it shouldn't happen with external HDD. What seems to be the problem?
