In version 4.00 on Windows Server 2003 SP2 I've configured the following options:
-in Advanced Options: Detection frequency = 12 hours
-in Disk control: Do not examine space information of the following disks: ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTZYX
Then I've monitored an external WD USB drive "B:" with process monitor. It showed that the HDSentinel.exe accessed the drive in each 5 minutes.
Why does it that? Does it prevent the drive from shutdown?
Why is my hdd accessed in every 5 minutes?

Re: Why is my hdd accessed in every 5 minutes?
Thanks for your attention and excuse me for the issue.
As you may know, A: and B: letters were reserved for floppy drives.
This is why Hard Disk Sentinel 3.70 and older versions did not even try to access drives A: and B:
However, it was requested ( viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1311&start=0&st=0 ) to check and monitor these drives if they are hard drives, which is absolutely logical.
But the "Do not examine space information of the following disks" option was not extended for A: and B: drives, this is why the example shows CDE.... so drive letters and letters A and B are ignored in this option. This causes the software that it periodically detects the capactiy and free space for drive B: (as you can see).
Sorry again, it will be fixed and I'll let you know when the improved version will be available.
If you can use Report -> Send test report to developer, that would help the development.

HDSentinel starts with C: on its older versions. Does it add drive A and B on latest versions?

Yes, if A: or B: is a hard disk (not floppy drive) the capacity / free space is detected on those drives.
The disk monitoring (detection of temperature, health and complete status) always work for all drives, regardless of logical drive letters (even works on hard disks without associated drive letters).
