Potentially Broken Extended Storage ?

Post by Felix0 »

I started experiencing problems with my extended storage for my ps4 a couple of days ago. I first thought that the ps4 was the problem, but it wasn´t. So I switched the USB cable for a new one and tried plugging it into my computer. Since the computer couldn´t see the drive I had to format it to exFat. This made the pc and the ps4 able to see the extended storage drive. The drive now however starts lagging my computer and freezes some programs when it is plugged in. I am also unable to run CHKDSK or move anything to the disk since it freezes both processes. I can´t see the drive in Hard disk sentinel either. Can I do anything about this? Any help is appreciated.

I have a Seagate Game Drive for PS4 1.8TB

I'm afraid the drive is completely failed: if Hard Disk Sentinel does not see it (at least by a minimal level: at least the model ID and the capacity should be detected/displayed on the Information page) then the disk drive already has a serious damage which can't be repaired.

Generally we need to avoid such situation, to detect problems before it's too late.
Maybe (if you replace the drive) I'd suggest to periodically check the new disk drive with Hard Disk Sentinel, exactly to be informed about possible degradations, problems, minor issues and health decrease - long before this can happen.
