Not sure about this drive...

Post by Grinch843 »

Ran the non-destructive read/write test on this drive and this is how it comes out. I've seen SSD's with lots of darker green sections but not one like this. Should I be worried about this drive? Thanks...

Yes, the result is so interesting to see.

Generally we can expect that the flash devices (SSDs, pendrives, memory cards) usually do not have constant performance: their internal cache shows a very high speed for a short duration (causing false very good performance results in quick benchmarks) but intensively testing the whole disk area can reveal the real performance of the device.

This happened relatively sooner after the test started: as you can see on the Performance graph, it drops dramatically almost immediately, after some GB tested. This results the darker green blocks on most of the disk surface. So these may be "normal" and expected.

Personally I'd worry about the very end where the performance dropped even further and the SSD seems very slow.

It is good that the drive shows 100% health and all blocks are GOOD, so there were no yellow/red (damaged or failed) blocks. This confirms that generally the SSD is working correctly, all sectors could be read/written.

Maybe I'd check a simple Disk menu -> Surface test -> Read test too. If that test would also show slow performance on this SSD (and especially if it is a critical system) then I'd consider changing it, just to be sure.
