Slow writing speed in surface test - write test

Post by nighttob »

Hi
I use HD Sentinel as a erasing tool in my server with surface test function.
All HDs attached on a SAS/RAID card, such as AVAGO 9300-8i and Lenovo 430-8i.

I found some HD run speed low in write test, only a quarter of normal speed or less. Both SATA and SAS, 7.2K and 10K have this issue.
I don't change any default configuration.

May you help to find what cause this issue and how to slove it?
Thanks.

Were you able to find an answer or solution to fix the slower write surface test?

Same thing here - normal write speed outside of HD Sentinel Pro and 3-4 times slower inside.

Sounds so interesting.

Generally there should be no such/similar with Avago (or other) controllers, personally I use many Avago (LSI) RAID controllers and HBAs to test SATA/SAS hard disk drives with both read/write tests.

Can you please use Report menu -> Send test report to developer option? Then I can check the actual situation, examine and adjust things.

Okay.
I will report it later. As soon as the server move back to my site.

I have same issue with supermicro 9300-8i card.
most SATA HDDs, writing zero performance is bad. 50Mb vs 180Mb same HDD works fine with other HBA.

seems a compatibility issue with LSI 9300 IT mode cards.

Thanks, but generally there are no compatibility issue with such cards of course.
There are some drives (eg. SAS drives formatted to 520 / 528 bytes) where the write speed is slow due to the controller, it is completely independent from Hard Disk Sentinel software. But generally the write speed for standard sector size drives should be high.

So for same situation I have the same answer:

Sounds so interesting.

I apologize for any inconvenience caused by the false alarm.

Upon investigating the issue, I attempted to reproduce the problem just now. I compared it with my other LSI 9300 machine, which is operating at normal speed. During the comparison, I swapped the LSI 9300 cards between the two machines and identified the root cause of the problem: the firmware version.

The problematic card had firmware version 16.00.01, whereas the normal one had version 16.00.10, with the third revision making the crucial difference. After identifying this, I updated the firmware of the problematic card to version 16.00.10, and it now performs well.

Thank you for your understanding.

No problems of course, no need to apologize: thanks for the information as this may be useful in similar situations.
The firmware update can help to improve the operation / performance of the card in general.
