The media is write protected

Post by cosmoneer »

Hi, I am new to HD Sentinel and may have missed a step for what I am trying to do.

I have a Dell Perc 6/i RAID controller in a Dell R610 running Windows 7 with a NETAPP X422_HCOBD600A10 drive formatted to 512 byte blocks and configured as a stand alone RAID 0 drive. I have not configured the drive as a windows drive. HD Sentinel 5.30 Pro sees the drive just fine and can perform a surface read test, but when I attempt to perform any surface test that involves writing, it fails with an error message of "The media is write protected". What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

Sounds so interesting. Generally to perform any kind of read/write surface test under Disk menu -> Surface test, the drive(s) need to be exported, available for the operating system in order to be tested. No need to be partitioned/formatted, but the operating system should able to see it in Windows Disk Management.

If the array can be tested with read test but not with write tests, is it possible that the controller may block write completely?
Not yet see such options/functions but maybe there is a such option.

I'd recommend to please use Report menu -> Send test report to developer option. Then I can see how the disks configured and it helps to see the situation better.
