Hi
I have Sentinel and I need to blank erase one 8TB hard drive (just recovered after data loss) to make it like new. I am contemplating using DBAN. Is Sentinel WRITE test is the same in wiping hard drive, or it is not complete wipe?
I want to use this hard drive for backup later, and, if any more data loss occur, I want to have recovery only for recent files, not all previous versions?
Also, if I increase number of writes, would this increase symmetrically time to write, example, 1 write testis about 8 hours, so if I double write tests it would take 16 hours and so on?
Please advise.

wouldn't running a surfaces test "read/write" do this, and it would move/repair any bad sectors???

I suspect you mean the WRITE + READ test.
Yes, it performs complete overwrite and verifies the result by reading back the sectors and comparing if they could be actually overwritten (erased).
This erases all data, all files/folders and also file system information (MBR, MFT / FAT, unpartitioned space) and even partition(s) created with Linux/MAC (not managed by Windows).
In many cases, yes, it can help in fixing weak sectors and forcing reallocation of possible currently undetected bad sectors (as displayed by the description of the test before starting it: Forces the analysis of any weak sectors and verifies any hidden problems and fixes them by reallocation of bad sectors (this is drive regeneration). )
A more effective way is the Disk menu -> Surface test -> Reinitialize disk surface function, but depending on the situation, the WRITE+READ test may be also enough (and faster).
