HDS5.30 Pro no Works - ASROCK z77 Extreme 4 motherboard

Post by ms1958 »

I bought HDS 530 Pro yesterday.
HDS is not running on my ASROCK z77 Extreme 4 motherboard.
Hdsentinel.exe is running in Task Manager, but it does not do anything.
After installing HDS, the Windows 10 Pro system (x64) is unstable.
When shutting down Windows, the PC hangs.
I installed Intel Rapid Storage Driver: v14.8.16.1063.
I have 2 SSD in RAID1 and 2 HDD in RAID1 connected.
---
I still have another PC with Windows 10 and a 3WARE Raid Controller, there runs HDS 4.20 perfectly.
---
How do I get HDS 5.30 running on the ASROCK z77 Extreme 4 motherboard?

Sorry for my english, i used google translate ...

Excuse me for the possible troubles.

In some rare situations, the Intel RAID controller may not respond properly or may
only respond after very-very long time (sometimes even minutes) for the detection.
In this case yes, Hard Disk Sentinel (as it's waiting for the RAID controller,
which should answer in some ms) is not displayed, just appears in the task manager.
This is possible depending on disk (RAID) configuration, OS and driver version too.

It would interesting to examine, investigate the response of the controller to
determine what happens, what is the last step performed. This would
give ideas about when the RAID controller "stops" responding.

If you prefer, to investigate with more details, it would be required to start the
software in a special "test" mode.
This is 100% safe, just logs different steps done by the software to a test file.
Investigating that may help as it may show what (and hopefully why) bad
response the controller provides - and hopefully will give ideas how to improve.

For this, please

1) if running, completely close Hard Disk Sentinel by File -> Exit
(or by terminating from the task manager)

2) Then you'd need to start HDSentinel.exe with some command line parameters,
to create text files to save the communication between the drives / devices
and Hard Disk Sentinel itself. For this, please open an elevated command
prompt by starting CMD.EXE and select "Run as administrator".

Then navigate to the folder of the software by entering

CD "C:\Program Files (x86)\Hard Disk Sentinel"

and then enter

HDSentinel.exe /ENABLETEST /REPORT /RAID

This should create some text files: a testmode.txt, RAID.TXT and a
HDSentinel_5.30_PRO_report.txt into the folder of Hard Disk Sentinel.
The report file may not be created (as it would be created only if
the complete detection happens).

Please allow it to run for longer time (eg 10-15 minutes), just to be sure.

Please send these files together (maybe compressed or as-is) as then I can examine the
whole detection, investigate the responses.
This may hopefully give further ideas about what happens, what is the response
of the Intel SATA RAID controller (and why it is bad) and hopefully
by that, it is possible to find how to improve the situation.

Really interesting - would be nice to know what causes this on your system.
