According to Hard Disk Sentinel, there is a single weak sector on the C:\ of my Windows 10 PC, as shown in the attachment.

In contrast Windows CHKDSK reveals nothing wrong.

Hard Disk Sentinel will not run a corrective test whilst the C:\ is in use.

Can anyone advise a way around this at all? Or is there an alternative way of correcting this bad sector?

Please see Support -> Frequently Asked Questions -> What is a weak sector? How to repair weak sectors?
https://www.hdsentinel.com/hard_disk_ca ... ectors.php

This page suggested by Hard Disk Sentinel when it detects the weak sectors.

This is completely normal and expected. As described on the page, chkdsk checks and fixes problems with the logical volume - which is different than the physical disk, even if it may sounds surprising.

Of course this is NOT true: Hard Disk Sentinel can fix and repair hard disk issue without problems.
This is completely described on the above mentioned page.
Please use Disk menu -> Surface test -> Disk Repair, which designed exactly for this situation.

Again: Disk menu -> Surface test -> Disk Repair, which designed exactly for this situation.

Can you please clarify your answer?

I am using Hard Disk Sentinel 5.30. The menu option Disk menu -> Surface test offers two choices. The first is a read test which I have carried out. The second is a write test which says that it "ovewrites the disk surface with configurable pattern."

Where is the Disk Repair option? Or do you mean that this is the write test? If so, how best can I identify what is locking the C:\ if I try to use this scan type? And what happens with pre-existing files on the disk?

Thanks, I see.
So you have Hard Disk Sentinel standard version: yes, it offers only the read test and the destructive write test (which can be started on secondary disks only, not on system drive).

As the product comparison table on the Store page ( https://www.hdsentinel.com/store.php ) shows, the functions

"Complete surface analysis, refresh, reinitialise, repair" are available in Hard Disk Sentinel Professional only.

Hard Disk Sentinel Professional has additional tests, as described with more details in the Help:
https://www.hdsentinel.com/help/en/61_surfacetest.html
(see many tests, including the Disk Repair available in Pro version only).

If you send an e-mail to info (at) hdsentinel (dot) com with the existing license, I can assist about economic upgrade to Pro to have additional functions, features.
