Maximum number of drives seen by HD Sentinel?

Post by gordonsmith789 »

I have about 60 drives on a server but HD Sentinel only reports on 32 (0-31). Is this a bug? I'm using 3x Silicon Image 3124 (4x eSata) and 1x SIL 3132 (2x eSata) connected to a big pile of 4 and 5 slot eSata enclosures. Windows 7 works fine and sees all of the drives.

Hi,

Thanks for your message and question.

Hard Disk Sentinel supports up to 200 disks now, so all such disk drives should be properly detected and displayed - if the actual configuration allows that.
Generally there should be no problem with Silicon Image controllers and external enclosures but sometimes their combination may not allow accessing all disks in all enclosures.

May I ask the manufacturer and model of the external enclosures?
Generally if they based on JMicron chipset, then (because of limitation of such chipsets) only up to 5 such enclosures could be detected, additional disk enclosures does not provide disk status information.

I'd ask to use Report menu -> Send test report to developer option, but because of the size of the configuration, it may not be transferred.

So please open Configuration -> Send test report page where you can create developer (test) report and save it to file.
If you send to info (at ) hdsentinel (dot) com, I'd be happy to check, examine what causes the missing drives and verify the possibilities.
Sometimes a driver (or firmware of the external enclosure) update helps, but if there is anything to do at our side, Hard Disk Sentinel would surely improve to attempt detection of the status of all disk drives you use.
