HDS dont show all disks

Post by designed »

Hi. I have trouble showing up 2 of my disks from 6 disks.

I have 3 RAIDs:
RAID 0 [disk 0 + disk 1] - OK, disks showing
RAID 1 [disk 2 + disk 3] - OK, disks showing
RAID 1 [disk 4 + disk 5] - No disks showing up in HDS
USB disk - HDS shows disk 5 for this one.

See my screenshots attached bellow.

Thank you for helping me out.
Before i was not having this issue and all disks were in HDS OK.

Hi,

Thanks for your message and excuse me for the possible troubles.

Generally with updated Intel RST drivers (if I'm correct, maybe the driver updated recently?), there are some issues: as you can see, the RAID controller driver does not provide complete details when Hard Disk Sentinel attempts to detect the complete configuration (arrays, their members and their status). The result is yes, sometimes partial information can be detected only.

Currently researching the situation and working on extending the detection in this case, so if you have some time, please check this version (designed _exactly_ for such situation. This is not the same as 5.01.11 public version:

https://www.hdsentinel.com/beta5/hdsent ... 50111c.zip

as it is possible that things will be better immediately as it already has some updates for the problematic Intel RST driver.

The best would be if you can
1) install this updated version in the folder where the previous installed (without uninstallation, so it will automatically use settings, statistics, etc), but when the installation completes, DO NOT launch the software.
2) delete the previously saved RAID.TXT, testmode.txt in the folder of the software (if present)
3) then you'd need to start HDSentinel.exe with some command line parameters, to create text files to save the communication between the drives / devices and Hard Disk Sentinel itself. For this, please open an elevated command prompt by starting CMD.EXE and select "Run as administrator".

Then navigate to the folder of the software by entering

CD "C:\Program Files (x86)\Hard Disk Sentinel"

(if it's installed in that folder - or enter to the appropriate folder) and then enter

HDSentinel.exe /ENABLETEST /REPORT /RAID

This should create some text files: a testmode.txt, RAID.TXT and a HDSentinel_5.01.11c_PRO_report.txt into the folder of Hard Disk Sentinel.

Please send these in all cases: these may confirm if things are better - but if things are still not perfect, they can help to examine what can be wrong and how to investigate further.

Sorry for the troubles, hopefully with the files, it is possible to find out what is wrong on your system and how to get the missing details.

Hi.

Thanks for your quick response and help.
Here are the .txt reports.

Testmode: http://upload.pressdesign.sk/subory/testmode.txt
RAID: http://upload.pressdesign.sk/subory/RAID.TXT
HDS: http://upload.pressdesign.sk/subory/HDS ... report.txt

TXT files cant be attachet here with the post, so i uploaded it to me.
Please, check it out. Thank you for your patience.

Thanks, I downloaded, so if you prefer, you can remove the files (I thought you may send in email).

Will investigate to verify why the 3rd RAID array is missing - while to other two (with 2 x 2 drives) can be detected and displayed correctly.
Will surely let you know any news, possible updates for testing.

Thank you so much.
Looking forward and waiting for some good news.

BTW, time ago it worked fine with this setup (nothing changed around the disks).
Two things i done:
- Updated Intel RST
- Updated HDS

I tried uninstalling HDS and installed an older version, but not helped.
Then i think, the problem is with the Intel driver. :(

But i cant imagine what/why...

Yes, this is true: the Intel driver (again) has some troubles...

Hard Disk Sentinel attempts to read the configuration, to determine the arrays, their members - and their status.
After testing, it seems _usually_ things work as should, but sometimes (_usually_ for RAID1 arrays) the driver does not provide the configuration information at all and in this case, the drives of a particular array may be missing.
There are exceptions and weirdness, why (for example) on your system the driver provides the configuration data correctly for RAID0 and RAID1 arrays - but not for the 2nd RAID1 array.

I mean if there would be a bug in Hard Disk Sentinel (if it would be incorrectly using a function) then it could not access any of the drives/arrays.
But 100% similarly we can get 2 positive results (for the RAID0 and the first RAID1) and one negative result for the second RAID1.
This is definitely the bug of the Intel driver.
Now working on extending the detection differently, by directly enumerating possible drives when such situation found.

Will let you know the results of course (I'll send in e-mail first to test).

Thanks for your previous help and attention about the Intel RAID controller.
The next 5.01.12 version fixed the problem, it has improved support and detection for the Intel controller (especially when newer drivers used).
