New Hard Drive tests
New Hard Drive tests
I've just purchased a new 2 TB hard drive to clone my OS across. Before doing so I ran a Disk Read test on the new hard drive to make sure all blocks are OK, which they were. Would it be prudent to run a more thorough "Reinitialize disk surface" or "Disk repair" or is it really unnecessary?

Please check: www.hdsentinel.com/faq.php#tests
which describes the best methods to perform intensive testing on a new hard disk.
The Surface test -> Read test is one of these tests and if this completes without errors, we can be almost sure everything is perfect.
However, personally I'd perform different kind of tests too: test to verify writes ("Reinitialize disk surface") plus performing the hardware self tests too, just to verify that all components are working correctly.
If these all complete without problems, yes, we can be sure that the hard disk drive is perfect - and a quick format is enough to make it working.
