Portable Sentinel?

Post by Leadfingers »

Is there a portable version of Sentinel anywhere? I've looked, but can't seem to find one. I'd love to be able to connect a system to my network and run the tool without the need to physically remove the hard drive.

Thoughts?

Yes of course.
Excuse me, it is not really hidden.
It is available on the Download ( http://www.hdsentinel.com/download.php ) page as separate file, here is the direct download link too:

http://www.harddisksentinel.com/hdsenti ... rtable.zip

which should be extracted to a new, empty folder on a removable drive, like a pendrive.
From that folder, it is possible to start HDSentinel.exe (under Windows) to diagnose any number of computers and any number of hard disks / SSDs, without installing the software on the actual system. Then the Portable version saves all settings, statistics to this removable drive and can be used to perform tests to reveal / fix possible problems.

With a single Professional license, it can be used to diagnose one system at any given time.

Also to find easier, it is available directly on the page of the Hard Disk Sentinel Professional too
( http://www.hdsentinel.com/hard_disk_sen ... sional.php ),
see the details on the bottom and the "Download Portable" link on the left.

Hi just bought a PRO license and installed on 1 computer.

If I want to use the portable version, http://www.harddisksentinel.com/hdsenti ... rtable.zip do I put it on a USB stick and license it on that stick (and remove from my 1 computer)? Thanks.

To be short: yes.

Both the Installed and Portable versions are (in terms of licensing) same: they are both Professional version: they have 100% same functions, features. They both allow lifetime use with lifetime free updates to all future versions.

The only difference is how the software deployed (installed OR started from a removable device, eg. pendrive/CD) and started (automaticaly on startup OR manually).

So generally, if you have one license for Hard Disk Sentinel Professional, you can decide if you prefer to use

- with the Installed version (to get real-time protection)
OR
- with the Portable version (to use by a pendrive, without installation to diagnose / fix issues) but not both at the same time (with the same license).

If you'd need both versions (or more than one such pendrives) then you'd need to have two different licenses - or the Pro Family license which allows using on up to 5 computers / pendrives (in any combination), for example
- install on 4 computers and use the Portable on 1 pendrive
- install on 3 computers and use the Portable on 2 pendrives
- install on 2 computers and use the Portable on 3 pendrives
and so.

If you prefer to switch the current installed version to Portable, then please uninstall the installed Hard Disk Sentinel Professional first.

Then to use the latest possible licensed version, please download the latest Hard Disk Sentinel Professional Portable 5.30 version from the Download page ( https://www.hdsentinel.com/download.php )
or directly from https://www.harddisksentinel.com/hdsent ... rtable.zip

Then launch HDSentinel.exe from the folder where you extracted.

Please click on "Help" and select "Enter registration key" in Hard Disk Sentinel Pro Portable.

Please enter your name (or nickname) as username, the license code you have (15 digit number) and click on the "Register and activate on-line" button. Then the software should be registered and activated and can be used without limitations. Make sure that the software need to access the activation server during the activation, so your firewall should not block it.
