Problem Updating to new version
Problem Updating to new version
Automatically have this set to check for new version. It tries to install but throws an error saying service not installed or being used by another program. I don't run hdm as a service so the service isn't running. Tried everything I know but get this error every time. How do I upgrade to latest PRO please.?

Re: Problem Updating to new version
Thanks for your message and excuse me for the troubles.
To be honest, sounds interesting as I suspect the "service not installed or being used by another program" message is not really related to Hard Disk Sentinel. Hard Disk Sentinel should display no such messages at all. Maybe a Windows component is not installed or does not work as expected (?)
I'd recommend to send an image (screenshot) to info@hdsentinel.com as seeing the window may give some ideas, thoughts.
What do you see if you manually initiate the update by the automatic updater from File menu?
Do you see the same?
Anyway, you can any time update to latest Hard Disk Sentinel Pro version this way:
1) completely close the current version by File -> Exit
2) download the latest Hard Disk Sentinel Pro installer from http://www.harddisksentinel.com/hdsenti ... _setup.zip
(note this link always points the latest Hard Disk Sentinel Pro version, 4.71 in this case)
3) without uninstalling the previous version, install this new version to the same folder where the previous installed.
This way the program files will be updated and the new version will automatically use all settings, statistics, logs, registration details - if the previous version was registered and activated with your license.
Please note that if you had a special, promotional license, then the updated version may switch back to unregistered version and may no longer accept the original license.

Re: Problem Updating to new version
I tried starting a new thread for this, but the forum throws an error:
General Error - Tried to redirect to potentially insecure url.
So here is MY experience upgrading to the new version:
About 2 weeks ago, a module of HDS which I had not allowed through the firewall generated an alert (harddisksentinelupdate.exe). I allowed it through but of course by that time it had probably terminated with an error. I noted down that I would have to update HDS manually this time. Yesterday, I stopped the HDS service and fired-up the GUI and Lo and Behold, HDS was already version 4.71!
So I would like to say Amazing Job guys! HDS updated itself in the background with no intervention from me; completely transparent! And unlike some other programs, it respected where it was installed and upgraded itself there (some tools, you keep having to manually upgrade them because otherwise they ignore where they were, and go and re-Install themselves on C:ProgramFiles).
So thank you for a totally effortless upgrade!
