should i replace this drive?

Post by Trev333 »

hi ive been using hd sentinel for quite a while now i got a little prob. im running a raid 5 and one of my drives keeps failing. ive rebuilt the raid after it failed because hd sentinel says the drive is fine 100% no bad blocks nothing in smart attributes to say it failing however it happened again. im just wondering why hd sentinal is not reporting a problem if the drive is failing? or am i missing something? should i judt replace the drive?

thanks in avance for any advice Trev

Can you please use Report menu -> Send test report to developer option by Hard Disk Sentinel? Then I can check the complete status of the hard disk reported.

I suspect maybe there is an issue with data cable, connection or so. This may cause that (even if the hard disk itself is good) the RAID controller may indicate an error. Generally, this does not affect health (as the error is not really related to the health of the hard disk) but in most cases Hard Disk Sentinel reports this to indicate that there is a problem in the operation. From the developer report sent by "Report menu -> Send test report to developer option" I can see more.

Generally, if you feel bad about the drive, I'd recommend to remove from the array and perform intensive testing as described at http://www.hdsentinel.com/faq.php#tests
(I'd suggest to do this also BEFORE creating an array). This would surely confirm if the drive is perfect - or reveal any problem.
