I have a few questions pertaining to the "family license":
When I decommission one of my five (5) "family licensed" computers, how can I re-use the freed-up license on another computer?
How is the "family license" activation count maintained and tracked?
How does the use of HDSentinel Pro (Portable) relate to "family licensing/activation"?

I can confirm that if you uninstall the software from the "old" computer, the license can be re-used on a new computer.
There is no need to de-activate (decomission) the license. The activation system automatically offers such update and allows moving the license to a new system when required.
Generally, if activation of licenses may happen too often / too many times, it may trigger an alert during activation: then it would be required to reset the activation counter on the activation server.
Then if you send your license code (the 15 digit number) then this activation counter will be cleared quickly to prevent any possible problems and then it is possible to continue using the license.
A tip: to prevent problems and moving all statistics, settings and registration details to the new installation, you may consider using Configuration -> Update -> Backup configuration to save everything to single file and Configuration -> Update -> Restore configuration on the new system.
May be useful especially if you want to continue using some hard disks/SSDs after re-installation and want to keep their statistics / logs and so.
In general, if you order Hard Disk Sentinel Professional Family license, one registration code is delivered. That registration code offers a total of 5 uses
with any of the Installed and Portable versions.
So from this "pool" of 5 registrations possible for this registration code, you can use any number of registrations with Hard Disk Sentinel Professional Portable version.
So you can
- install Hard Disk Sentinel Professional on 5 computers or
- install Hard Disk Sentinel Professional on 4 computers and use 1 pendrive with Hard Disk Sentinel Professional Portable or
- install Hard Disk Sentinel Professional on 3 computers and use 2 pendrives with Hard Disk Sentinel Professional Portable
and so.
If you use the installable version the software - then the activation is related to the actual computer. If you use the Portable version, then the activation is related to the actual pendrive (which contains the Portable version).
In all cases I can confirm that the license grants lifetime usage (never expires) and with lifetime free updates to all future versions (4.50, 4.60, 5.00, 6.00, etc...). So there are absolutely no further annual renewal / subscription / update costs.
