Strange Issue

Post by adrianf74 »

I recently rebuilt and installed the trial version of HD Sentinel on my machine. I've noticed that at exactly midnight each day, the computer drops down to the desktop (regardless of what's running or going on) and I see the drives that are being monitored by HD Sentinel disappear and then "reappear" a few seconds later in the status bar.

I'm running Norton 360 and have gone through its settings and can't see anything that's causing this to happen. I've also gone through Windows 7's own task scheduler and have either disabled or moved events to a later time but this strange phenomenon keeps occurring.

I know this isn't an issue, per se, with HD Sentinel but figured somebody else must've seen this happen before.

Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

I can confirm that on midnight Hard Disk Sentinel automatically update its records, resets the measured daily read/write counters, resets the measured daily temperature values (min/max/average) etc.... just like if it would be restarted completely. This causes that the tray icons hide and then displayed again with the updated "fresh" values - which is completely normal.

However, it does not affect the programs running, does not hide any other applications etc. So if you see "the computer drops down to the desktop" - it may be related to something else, maybe an other program.

Thank you kindly for the prompt reply. It's good to know that, as far as the midnight closing and relaunching goes, this is normal behavior. I was trying to see if this was tied into the desktop foreground focus issue that happens at midnight as well but I guess I'll have to keep poking around.

Cheers!

Generally, Hard Disk Sentiel does not close / relaunch itself - just clear the internal counters, calculated averages and so - acting like as fresh started.

If you can use Report menu -> Send test report to developer option, it is always helpful as then it is possible to check the actual configuration and upon any problems/issues it may help to reproduce that and improve the software in all possible ways - if the problem is related to Hard Disk Sentinel.

Same problem here :?:

Right at midnight, playing any game or watching any movie, the icon of the program comes and goes of the taskbar. As result, I lose the focus of any fullscreen (it happens even when I see Youtube videos)...

Since not only one user is affected by it, it must be some kind of solution by now or soon... right?

Generally, the re-freshing of the icons (hiding and showing them again) is completely normal - but the focus should remain active, without losing it.

Can you please use Report menu -> Send test report to developer option? Then it is possible to perform further checks in a similar environment - and verify how things could be improved.

Is there any way to change the time of that event?

I'm afraid no, it happens automatically at midnight - when the date changes and the internal statistics, measurements need to re-set.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but this is still an active issue that losses focus on all windows, as well as it minimizes or pops out full screen games.
A dumb solution to a problem might be just to make a task inside Task scheduler, so it kills hard disk sentinel right before midnight

One user reported similar in some weeks and did the best - but could never reproduce the issue.
Runned the software on test systems for very long time, many weeks - but never saw anything, the focus never lost.
Did monitoring with window-focus-logger tool which never reported any loss of the focus.

Would be nice to have some additional information (software version, OS version): so please use Report menu -> Send test report to developer option. This may give some ideas, check if there is anything similar with the configuration of that particular user which may cause this on your system.

I have created a report as you told me to do.
I have reinstalled the Windows 10 several times and it has been an issue ever since I had Windows 10, and I had it for a long time now so I'm not sure if it has happened before.
