Re: Recertified hard drive testing
What value should I check in the "Device Specific Information"?
Because of the fact that I cannot see any errors in SMART, WRITE testing and "Device Specific Information", can I assume these re-certified HDDs are as good as new now?

Re: Recertified hard drive testing
1. I have attached the results from the 'Disk' menu under 'Device Specific Information.' 2. All drives have passed the SMART and Write tests. 3. Something interesting is happening: the motherboard shows the port as 'empty' in BIOS, but once I boot into Windows 11, both the operating system and HDS c...

Recertified hard drive testing
I recently purchased a few recertified hard drives on eBay and I have checked the SMART status and performed a writing surface test using HDS. I chose not to perform an initialized surface test as it tends to be much slower compared to the writing test. I observed that the SMART data on these recert...

WRITE test and READ test for a WD HDD
I recently conducted WRITE and READ tests on my 3TB WD HDD to assess its health. Since HDS issued a 2% HDD health warning, I decided to perform a WRITE test first. The initial 2/3 of the test proceeded quickly, but the last 1/3 was notably slower, with the speed dropping from around 100MB/s to 30MB/...

Re: ESXi/VMWare support
Thanks for your honest answer.
I don’t have a RAID card and all my HDDs and SSDs are connected to the motherboard SATA or M.2 ports. So the ESXi passthrough is a no-go.
I wish the Linux solution can work for ESXi in the future. I believe it will be very useful for a lot of people!

Re: how to fix bad drives
So "0% health but all green test result" means the hard drive has reached the last moment of it's life and there isn't much HDS can fix even with Reinitialize surface.
Thanks for the detailed explanation!

Re: how to fix bad drives
Can Reinitialise Disk Surface fix "05 Reallocated Sectors Count" problems?
I have two HDDs, both finished surface test with all green blocks, but still 0% healthy because of the 05 error.

Re: Western Digital Green 3TB HDD takes 110+ hrs to Surface
After 126 hours, the surface test is finally finished! Even though all blocks are light green, the SMART status still shows errors. My question is, if all “reallocated Sectors” are used, but all data sectors are green, the drive is still usable, isn’t it? Also, I did a quick test with CrystalDiskMar...

ESXi/VMWare support
1. I know HDS supports Linux. Does that mean it supports ESXi/VMWare? I didn’t find any tutorials for ESXi here. 2. HDS supports NAS. I have a Synology NAS VM on an ESXi 6.7 host. The HDDs are mapped to NAS as RDM (Raw Device Mapping), so Synology cannot see SMART of the HDDs because ESXi sits in be...

I just tried the 5.7 portable version and it CAN detect all RAID drivers!
Thanks!

AMD B550 BIOS RAID not detected by HDSentinel
My OS is Windows Server 2019. Motherboard is ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4. I used to use windows to create RAID0, but I found the AMD motherboard BIOS RAID0 is a little faster after some testing. However, after switching to BIOS RAID, HDSentinel can no longer detect my HDDs’ smart status. raid.1.png...

Western Digital Green 3TB HDD takes 110+ hrs to Surface Test
I have a 3TB WD Green HDD and it gave some smart errors recently. So I tried Surface Test with HDSentinel, and it will take 110+ hours to finish! The speed is between 5MB/s to 10MB/s, but all blocks are green so far! The HDD is connected to the motherboard SATA port. Is this speed normal? If the sur...
