Re: HDS crashes without a trace
Thank you, I just updated to the latest beta. It's a useful feature for me as my external HDDs spin down quite fast without HDS keeping them running all the time.

HDS crashes without a trace
My computer is turned on 24/7. Ever since I upgraded to Windows 10 in January this year, I've had the issue where HDS occasionally crashes by itself without Windows actually noticing anything. The tray icon is there but when I hover the mouse pointer over it, it disappears. This happens maybe once a...

Re: Schedule for reading report file for NAS drives
I finally did some tests and it seems that the HDDs do not spin down if I make HDS read the report file off the NAS. The NAS log file shows a CIFS connection every 30 minutes or so as I have set the poll interval to 30 minutes in HDS.

Re: Schedule for reading report file for NAS drives
Yes, this is exactly how cache should work - and exactly this is what we want: when the NAS is active, hard disks are spinning due to read/write operations (so their status may be changed, updated) then we exactly want to have new, fresh reports to monitor the updated status, possible changes. Then...

Re: Schedule for reading report file for NAS drives
I didn't test the caching yet, but will do that later. What I'm wondering about caching is that wouldn't the file be purged a long time ago from the cache if the report file is produced and I watch movies or TV series after that, which means that the NAS is reading from the HDDs and caching more rec...

Schedule for reading report file for NAS drives
First of all, thank you very much for the useful feature of providing the status of NAS drives in the Pro version. After finally getting the thing running on my Synology 4-bay NAS (had to fight a corrupted schedule database, ran into the solution by accident), I immediately came up with an idea to s...

Re: Limit the transfer rate of a drive
If I connect via USB 2.0, there are no disconnects at all. Usually the dock is that way, this time I just need to check two second hand 2 TB hard drives with the Reinitialize functionality and with USB 2.0, it takes forever  And it seems that it doesn't matter which HD is attached, the next thi...

Limit the transfer rate of a drive
Would it be possible to limit the throughput rate of a drive programmatically? I have a USB 3.0 dock which really doesn't play nice with my Windows 7 system but it often disconnects during heavy I/O load. It doesn't matter whether it's connected to the motherboard's USB connectors or a PCI-E card one.

Re: HDS hangs when selecting dialog items
Deleting the registry key seems to have fixed the issue. After that, I can install HDS (to the default folder) and it's functioning normally. I'll just have to see if it still crashes at some point, but I think everything's back to normal.

Re: HDS hangs when selecting dialog items
The portable version seems to work, it's not sluggish and doesn't crash.
I tried uninstalling HDS and deleting the installation folder and reinstalling it. The same issue occurs right from the start, the dialogs are slow and then it ends up in the not responding state.

Re: HDS hangs when selecting dialog items
Not really sure if I understand correctly. Do you mean running THIS "clean" Portable version (which you used to send the report)? Or the original HDS? If yes, did you try the latest 4.71 version, or use an older version? I meant the installed version (v4.71). It had caused a crash in ntdl...

Re: HDS hangs when selecting dialog items
Hi, I just sent you a test report with the portable version, it seems to work. Can you tell me how to start working on this issue? I have already tested running HDS without the dock and also tried deleting the ini file but they didn't help. Earlier today, I left HDS running in the tray and it had cr...

HDS hangs when selecting dialog items
Hi, for the last two days, I've had the issue in which HDS hangs completely. It loads up but when I try to open any dialogs etc., it just stops responding and it's not possible to run the test report. Selecting different hard drives from the list doesn't cause the hang. The only change to the system...

Re: Reinitialize only certain blocks
However, as each blocks can contain 10000's of data sectors (or even more), if the block contains metadata (for example folder information, MFT fragment and so) that may be also affected, so it is possible that other files/folders may be tested (reinitialised), not only the one file. Does the "...

Reinitialize only certain blocks
Hi, if I choose to reinitialize only certain blocks of the HDD, does it destroy only the contents of those blocks so that the drive is still available via Windows Explorer and the rest of the data can be accessed? I'm asking this because one drive of mine has some weak sectors which seem to cover ju...

Re: Maiwo K307 USB dock
Thanks a lot for the detailed information, I just downloaded the latest beta to make sure what I see is as correct as it is. As soon as I can get some extra empty HD space (not easy these days), I'm going to use the USB dock with just those two ports utilized to avoid any cases of missed HD degradat...

Show names of files with damaged blocks
Hi,
whenever I find damaged blocks from my HDDs, I would really love to see which files occupy the damaged areas. Do you think this could be easily achieved?

I sent two reports with the USB dock as the only USB external mass storage device. Hope they'll help you out, and as before, just let me know if you need anything else.

Re: Maiwo K307 USB dock
Thanks for the quick reply, much appreciated :D Here are some pictures I took with different configurations. I'll also send a new test report with four different model HDDs installed. I contacted the manufacturer but their initial response didn't promise much, they may have used some cheap solutions...
