Re: Possible to ignore USB drive connect/disconnections?
Tx for the clarification. The key issue is that I don't know what the model ID will be for any future thumbdrive etc. that will be inserted. The only thing I do know is that these transient storage devices will inserted via USB. My ideal preference would be for a simple checkbox that said "Igno...

Re: Alert email message layout
Tx for the info. RE: 1) Yes we tried enabling both those options. "Include problem overview in alerts" is very useful but the Overview is still a bit 'buried' down the email. The second one didn't appear to make any difference as the alert contained all drives. 2) The detailed components s...

Possible to ignore USB drive connect/disconnections?
With this alert enabled, is it possible to do this? I tried USB* as a wildcard in the Disk Drive Added/Connected threshold ignore field but I think that only works with device model IDs. Can the wildcard be made to work with the Disk interface type? I saw in the alert that Overview > Drive Added doe...

Alert email message layout
Hi I had a few suggestions that would ease comprehension of the email alerts, when using a mobile device or using email apps wth message preview functions. 1) Could the alert triggering stats be extracted and copied to the top of the email (or a link to it added)? Currently it is somewhat buried in ...

Re: Add volume name to some areas
Phew! Tx for considering, as it'd make identification of logical drives/volumes etc. much easier.

Re: Add volume name to some areas
Slightly late reply to this one. Do I win a prize for the tardiest reply?
Set Free Disk Space Threshold just shows logical drive letters, so it'd be very useful to have the volume name displayed too.
And in the Alert emails under "Overview".

Drive storage units in GB in Free Disk Space threshold
Hi Drive storage sizes are getting rather large these days, and my eyes aren't as good as they used to be e.g. I find it difficult to tell the difference between 99999MB and 9999MB. Is there any chance that GB could be used an additional display unit on this config screen? Or some comma/period delim...

Re: Win10 reports disk issues, but not HDS
Yes, I knew that the notifications could be sent for the Log but I had not enabled it as I considered that I might be overrun with daily info-type events, as it's 'just a Log' (speaking from experience on other logging systems!). However on reading the help, it states that the Log actually only cont...

Re: Win10 reports disk issues, but not HDS
Tx for the info. I replaced the SATA cable and the CRC and NTFS errors have stopped.
It would have been good to have some form of pop-up to flag this error though as I only discovered it by chance in the Windows event log.

Win10 reports disk issues, but not HDS
Hi Win10 has reported an issue with a drive. I spotted it in Windows Event Viewer - there were lots of disk and filesystem errors: Disk: The IO operation at logical block address 0x5f54a0 for Disk 1 (PDO name: \Device\00000024) was retried. The IO operation at logical block address 0x5f5058 for Disk...

Re: Drive goes offline but HDS reports no errors
Actually now you mention the Log tab, I'd never looked at that (as the Overview page never mentioned anything). The log page does indeed show lots of "Event #199 Ultra ATA CRC Error Count" increasing from n to n+ something. Also on the SMART tab, that 199 value has Threshold of 0, Value of...

Re: Drive goes offline but HDS reports no errors
Hi I found that my machine was behaving oddly at/after boot - very slow response, some program execution errors etc. I found lots of these errors in the Event Log: ATAPI Event ID: 11 The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort2. After some googling, it was suggested to try a HD Tun...

Varying disk test performance
Is it possible to have a slider of Slow to Fast HD testing time vs drive performance impact? Or are such tests controlled by drive firmware rather than an app? It'd be handy to reduce the testing performance impact for new disks that I want to start copying data to, but still test thoroughly. Altern...

Automatic testing of new disks
It was very interesting reading http://www.hdsentinel.com/faq.php#tests. Have you considered allowing HDS to detect drives that it has not done its own tests on, and then to pop-up a wizard with a suggested course of test action(s). Then it could be sure of reporting the most accurate health stats. ...

Very interesting, espec regarding the suggested tests, of which I was not aware. I'll post in another thread about those!

Re: Email overheat alerts need summary info
OK I found that disk health report - it was Google - "Failure Trends in a Large Disk Drive Population" http://research.google.com/archive/disk_failures.pdf I maintain that clarifying the different disk and/or lowest machine drive healths would be very useful in these reports, as just an un...

Re: Email overheat alerts need summary info
Tx - I think making the stats clearer is a definite way forward. But TBH I find including the machine's lowest health % in the subject rather confusing, since surely the alert is about overheating on a particular disk? So in an Overheat alert, I'd expect primarily stats about that overheating disk a...

Re: Email overheat alerts need summary info
Tx for the info. I will try out the "brief text" option. I had looked through the config setting but my eye missed the Report type as it appeared to be indented together with a bunch of connection type settings which weren't relevant to me. However I would suggest that the email subject co...

Email overheat alerts need summary info
Hi When I receive emailed alerts I find the summary info rather basic i.e. it tell me the error (overheat etc.), the machine name and then a percentage. On opening the email I see a huge amount of General Information with app/computer/system info but nothing to read quickly to see more details about...
