Extended S.M.A.R.T. Information
While hard disk drives, SSDs, hybrid drives usually provide S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) attributes, the reported information may be not always enough to determine the real status information of the disk drive. The unique feature of Hard Disk Sentinel attempts to detect and report even further details to give a clear picture about the real health, temperature and status, so in addition to the standard set of S.M.A.R.T. attributes, only Hard Disk Sentinel can display Extended S.M.A.R.T. Information, in the form of Ext. S.M.A.R.T. attributes.
The Ext. S.M.A.R.T. attributes detected and displayed automatically for devices when required: for example if an SSD does not have a S.M.A.R.T. attribute related to its wearout and actual health based on it but there is chance to get this information (for example but not limited from the Device Specific Information section) the Ext. S.M.A.R.T. attributes detected, reported and used to calculate the proper health of the SSD.
The extended S.M.A.R.T. attributes are available for some selected SSD models now and constantly investigating the operation of further devices and extend the detection when required and possible.
Additional status information
In addition to Ext. S.M.A.R.T. attributes, Hard Disk Sentinel detects and reports further details in the text description area of the Overview page, including the temperature of the RAID controller and/or an enclosure/backplane - if the information could be accessed from the actual hardware configuration (the detection is automatic with many RAID controllers, for example but not limited to Adaptec, LSI, Avago, Broadcom, Intel, Dell RAID controllers).
For advanced users, the Disk menu -> Device Specific Information function gives even more information and details.
Note that the extended S.M.A.R.T. attributes and the above mentioned additional controller (or hardware specific) status information are not available in other disk monitoring tools, so other software probably provides only limited status information compared to Hard Disk Sentinel.
