Bad Sector?

Post by thurgood »

This is on my Usb drive. Hitachi 1TB. Hardware Sentinel says there is 1 bad sector. I have checked this with HardDriveRegenerator and it says there are no bad sectors. What could this mean? I have used HardDriveRegenerator for several years now and it has always performed well. Is there really one bad sector or is it a false positive?

Please click on the "?" button next to the text description.
It will describe what is a bad sector and why you can't see it by any software: the drive no longer uses it and all further reads and writes are redirected to the spare area instead. If the number of such problems do not increase, you may acknowledge it in Hard Disk Sentinel to prevent displaying this problem with the drive and restore the health back to 100%.

I'd also recommend to use the Disk menu Surface tests as these tests will reveal and fix any possible disk issues more efficiently. Especially the "Reinitialise disk surface" test may be helpful as described on the above mentioned F.A.Q. topics.
